| HKS's are pull-type relief... The best designed BOV in the market. The RFL's are pull-type relief ( the only other AFAIK, that is worth mentioning) But the quality is just not there like the HKS's. The HKS have the signature "sound" (high pitched, bird like tweek,purple insert) and also offer the lower pitched "sound" (more of a "whooSHH".. similar to apexi and RFL's, gold/yellow insert) Or you can get the recirc kit to act like stock recircs (stock actually perform very well) to recirc the excess boost back into the intake plumbing. This will give off no "sound" like a "BOV" Comparing HKS w/ recirc kit VS. Stock recircs. I would dare to say that a set of HKS's w/ recirc kit would outperform the stock recircs, especially at higher boost levels. I know some people say that BOV's offer no peformance gains.. But I will tell you from experience.. that I was very pleased with the boost response after a shift. The boost came on much quicker between gears. If you want the "sound" Go with HKS, hands down. Even if you just want the "sound" with no peformance gains in mind.. STILL, get the HKS.. BECAUSE.. If you are looking at the "cheapest" mod for your Z. You will eventually end up selling it because you'll realize how FAST you will be ending up having to pay to maintain these cars (particularly if you don't do the work yourself) and how important it is to buy quality parts for it. Then atleast if you bought the HKS from the start, You'll be able to re-coupe some of the money you spent. People are always on the lookout for a set of used HKS Bov's, they are high quality and the best design.
